Dr Lucy Leonard, Consultant Clinical Psychologist

Hello and thank you for visiting my website. I am a chartered clinical psychologist with a warm, flexible and open approach to working with people experiencing various forms of emotional distress.  I have over twenty years’ experience working with people in varying degrees of psychological distress both in NHS and private settings.

Using a range of psychological skills, I work with problems such as stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, family and relationship difficulties, bereavement, OCD and phobias.  I offer a safe, confidential space to talk through your feelings and experiences without the risk of judgement.  I can offer short-term, focussed treatment to get you back on track or longer-term therapy to help you change long-term problems and bring you closer to the way you want to be living your life, depending on what you are looking for.  I work with adults aged 18 and over- there is no upper age limit!

Why choose a clinical psychologist?

Clinical psychologists are trained in a variety of different treatments that are based on the best available psychological theories and research evidence.  We specialise in providing a thorough assessment of a person’s difficulties and developing a formulation; which helps to determine the underlying cause and maintaining factors in a person’s difficulties.  In this way, rather than simply offering a listening ear, clinical psychologists can help to tackle the root cause of a person’s difficulties and find a long-term solution that is tailored to your individual history and presentation and aids your self development.

All clinical psychologists, including myself are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS).  The HCPC ensure that only therapists with accredited qualifications and who meet the required standards for proficiency and professional conduct can practice using the title ‘psychologist.’ The BPS is the professional body that oversees the work of qualified psychologists and provides benchmarks for  professional standards of psychological knowledge and expertise. BPS Chartership is a mark of experience, competence and reputation for anyone looking to employ a private psychologist.
